"Gevrey-Chambertin – a village in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits district – produces some of the world's most prestigious and expensive red wines. The village is home to nine grand cru vineyards, comfortably more than any other Burgundy village (the nearest contender is Vosne-Romanée). Although the grand cru wines attract the most attention, those made under the village's standard Gevrey-Chambertin appellation are held in very high regard. Just like their big grand cru brothers, all Gevrey-Chambertin wines are made almost exclusively from Pinot Noir. Widely regarded as being Burgundy's most full-bodied and structured, the village's wines have a particular intensity of color, aroma and flavor about them, not to mention impressive longevity. Well-made examples can develop in the bottle for several decades. These qualities, combined with the village's solid reputation and relatively large production volumes, have earned Gevrey-Chambertin a reputation as the "king" of Burgundy wines." - Wine-searcher

"The Domaine des Tilleuls is in the old heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, close to the Church, and set a little lower on the hill than the old Chateau. The building’s design is a little unusual – apparently once the stables for a Count – with two pointy turrets either side of a courtyard that looks across the road towards their plot of Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos des Villages. Tilleuls are lime trees, but this is very much a domaine of the family Livera; young, quietly spoken Damien Livera is responsible for the wines today, but it was his great-grandparents who began the domaine ~1920 – Livera was originally a mason from Italy. Damien’s father, Philippe Livera, took over from his parents in 1986, and in-turn, Damien began to take hold of the reigns in 2007." - Burgundy Report, 12/18/13

Winemaker Damien Livera in a short time has established himself as one of the top young vignerons in the Cote de Nuits. Each of the family's villages-level vineyards is essentially a natural extension of Gevrey's finest premier cru plots. Sustainable farming is practiced.
