Antonio Galloni:"Santa Barbara is one of the few bright spots for California in 2020. Tucked away to the south, far away from fires that were so damaging in the north, Santa Barbara was blessed with far more favorable conditions throughout the year, especially during the critical weeks around harvest. There were some challenges, most notably heat spikes in middle to late August and all of the stresses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but overall Santa Barbara fared much better than the rest of California. Based on what I have tasted and seen so far, Santa Barbara produced the finest wines in California in 2020 by a wide margin."

This Pinot Noir is a blend of 6 of the best vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation. It's just perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious! I love the lively spiciness of this wine. Pairs beautifully with poultry, pork, fish, and even tomato-based Italian dishes. You can't go wrong with this Pinot - it's a crowd pleaser!

FROM THE WINERY

This wine is crafted from several of the finest vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills, each block of which is selected to add complexity and interest to the final blend. In 2020, this wine was comprised of wines from Radian (44%), Bentrock (42%), Spear (6%), Fiddlestix (3%), Duvarita (3%), and La Rinconada (2%). Each of the blocks is individually managed to ensure the highest quality fruit at harvest time, the dates for which are selected after multiple, often daily visits to the vineyards, meticulous sampling and extensive tasting. We ferment each block with native yeasts, and then separately barrel each lot into the finest French oak cooperage, 3 percent of which is new. The wines are aged on their lees for 15 months, and then blended and bottled without filtration.

With this careful attention to detail throughout the season and in the cellar, the wine displays great depth and concentration, with beautiful texture from lees aging and minimal handling. For the Sta Rita Hills appellation blend, we select wines for their complexity, bright expression, cheery personality, and food friendliness.

The 2020 has begun drinking very well right out of the gate. The wine shows complex red and blue fruits, a touch of minerals, some baking spices, fresh herbs and forest floor in a medium bodied frame and with silky texture. Great natural acidity provides lift and length. We expect a minimum of 8-10 years of aging potential.
