Evening Land "Seven Springs" Pinot Noir 2018

Eola-Amity Hills AVA, Willamette Valley, OR

For those who know Pinot Noir, it's easy to identify that this wine is from the Willamette Valley. Chock full of mineral notes and red fruit flavors, it's a perfectly delightful Oregon Pinot! Easy to drink on its own, but also very food-friendly. Just plain delicious, and a bargain to boot!

Seven Springs' eastern exposure ensures the vineyard awakens to the warmth of the morning sun. The vineyard's position opposite the windy Van Duzer Corridor, mitigates hot, sunny afternoons in the Willamette Valley with cool winds from the Pacific. As valley temperatures increase throughout the day, warm air rises, replaced by cooling winds flooding in from the Pacific through the Van Duzer gap and across our vineyard. This daily cooling, along with our eastern aspect, affords our grapes the luxury of extended time on the vine.
Since its inception, Seven Springs has been dry-farmed. The vineyard is LIVE™ certified and was converted to biodynamic viticulture in 2007. We continue to farm Seven Springs biodynamically, encouraging a healthy and sustainable ecosystem in the vineyard.

The 2018 Seven Springs Pinot Noir comes primarily from our oldest own-rooted block of Pinot Noir at the vineyard. Originally planted in 1982, these Pommard clones thrive in iron-rich, volcanic Jory soils. These 36-year-old dry-farmed vines are harvested by hand, the grapes are hand-sorted, and roughly 90% of the fruit was destemmed. A combination of gentle punch downs and pumpovers were employed throughout the fermentation to encourage a soft extraction of tannin and the wine was aged in neutral French oak for 16 months. The 2018 Seven Springs Pinot Noir was bottled without fining or filtering.

Our 2018 Seven Springs Pinot Noir typifies the warm, dry vintage more immediately than any wine in the range. It leads with a nose of brooding dark red fruit, black tea, and a subtle undercurrent of forest floor. On the palate the wine is quite luscious and generous with an inviting and deeply flavored mid-palate.
