Failla Occidental Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

Sonoma Coast AVA, CA

96 pts. Vinous:

"The 2019 Pinot Noir Occidental Ridge Vineyard is one of the highlights in this range, as it has been in the past. Bright and punchy, with superb definition, the Occidental Ridge possesses superb depth from start to finish. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice and menthol race across the palate. This is one of the more exuberant wines in the lineup, and yet all the elements are so well balanced. Time in the glass brings out a whole range of floral and savory accents that are quite attractive."

94 pts. Jeb Dunnuck:

"Lots of ripe, darker herbs, scorched earth, and both red and black fruits emerge from the 2019 Pinot Noir Occidental Ridge, a medium to full-bodied Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir that's certainly one of the biggest and richest in the lineup. Beautifully textured yet always balanced and elegant, with terrific tannins, it's ideal for enjoying over the coming 7-8 years, if not a decade."

94 pts. Wine Spectator:

"Deep and rich, this is filled with concentrated Christmas spice, dried fig and dark plum flavors that are juicy and well-structured. The plush, creamy finish offers notes of cocoa powder. Drink now through 2026."

At a Pinot Noir wine tasting event, where at least 20 wines were lined up for sampling, this Failla really stood out from the crowd for us. Delicious flavors complimented by a gorgeous bouquet, it really hit our sweet spot! This wine is a WINNER!

Seville orange, marionberry jam, and pink peppercorn on a dense core of acidity and plush tannin. FOR DAYS.
OCCIDENTAL RIDGE VINEYARD, established in 1999 and farmed by Richard Radcliffe, lies just outside the town of Occidental at about 800 feet above sea level. Three separate blocks make up this vineyard, each planted to a different Dijon clone of Pinot Noir.

THE 2019 VINTAGE was what you’d call a “classic”, starting with perfectly timed rainfall, a somewhat more compact growing season, even temperatures, and warm dry weather at harvest that brought us perfectly ripe, healthy fruit.

EHREN JORDAN is a true vigneron with decades of combined experience in cellars and vineyards from the Rhône Valley to Paso Robles, Sonoma County to the Willamette Valley.

Obsessive hands-on farming practices and minimalist hands-off winemaking allow site, variety, and vintage to be the true navigator of each expression.
