Roar Wines Rosella's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018
Santa Lucia Highlands, CA
96 pts. Jeb Dunnuck:
"From one of the cooler sites they work with, the 2018 Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard shines for its vibrant, pure yet complex style. Giving up lots of mulberry and black cherry fruit as well ample sappy flower and spice notes, this beauty is medium to full-bodied, has a juicy, elegant texture, perfectly integrated acidity, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming decade as well."
94 pts. Wine Enthusiast:
"Snappy aromas of candied raspberry, lively hibiscus, subtle rose petal and star anise make for a very fresh and inviting nose on this bottling. The palate's baked raspberry and red-cherry flavors are cut by orange peel and licorice, making for a hedonistically complex sip." - MT
94 pts. Vinous:
"Deep, glistening red. Expressive, spice-accented red and blue fruit, cola and floral qualities on the highly perfumed nose. Sweet and seamless in texture, offering energetic raspberry, cherry cola and rose pastille flavors plus an alluring spicy flourish. Shows an impressive blend of depth and vivacity and finishes with solid thrust and silky, slow-building tannins that fold seamlessly into the intensely persistent fruit." - JR (10/2020)
No one knows the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA better than Roar's founder Gary Franscioni. In 1996 he planted Rosella's Vineyard, named after his wife. The following year he and Gary Pisoni planted Garys' Vineyard. Both vineyards' Pinot Noir grapes are of the best quality and are highly sought-after by many wineries. Of course, since he owns the vineyards, he gets first choice of the grapes that he’ll use for his Pinots. The best grapes combined with a talented winemaker result in consistently delicious Roar Pinot Noirs!
FROM THE WINERY
Rosella’s Vineyard is the most feminine and elegant of our sites for Pinot Noir. The northernmost of our vineyards, it is slightly cooler with more fog and is recognizable for its floral lift, rose petal aromas and lush cherry and raspberry fruits. This vintage is complex, pretty, weighty, and elegant with grounding earthiness, cola and molasses accenting rich fruit and balanced structure.
