Walt Wines Blue Jay Pinot Noir 2018

Anderson Valley, CA

You’re probably familiar with the Napa Valley Cabernet winery “Hall”. Well, co-owner Kathryn Walt Hall branched off and created sister winery “Walt Wines”, which focuses on producing high-quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. She sources her grapes from Oregon all the way down to Sta. Rita Hills, only bottling wines from select top-end vineyards. We LOVE what she’s done with this Anderson Valley Pinot! (By the way, “Blue Jays” are what the Anderson Valley locals call themselves, in reference to the large number of Blue Jays that live there).

93 pts. Wine Enthusiast:

"Good depth of flavor and great structure make this wine appealing and complete. Smoky aromas of clove, cedar and black pepper lead to concentrated and rich black-cherry and red-cherry flavors on a moderately tannic texture. Best through 2025." - Jim Gordon, August 1, 2020

Warm, inviting aromas of wild blueberry, clove, caramel, and forest floor rise from the glass of Blue Jay Pinot Noir. The palate is plush and layered, with roasted stem inclusion adding breadth and savory notes. Deep flavors of sassafras root and black cherry bring this wine to a full-bodied and balanced finish.

This unique set of vineyards from "The Corner" of Anderson Valley is located in the hills east of Boonville. Both of our estate properties have steep hillsides, aspect, and light gravelly soils that combine to create optimal ripening conditions. These very rugged vineyard sites continuously produce fruit of great depth and character.

Following a series of warm, early harvests, this year’s growing season returned to a slower rhythm, allowing grapes to ripen gently with deep flavors. Our growers spent the summer and fall manicuring the vine canopies to provide the grapes enough shade from the sun while also preparing adequate airflow to deter mold. When Mother Nature did throw a couple of unpredictable systems at us, we were able to weather the storms and harvest exceptional fruit!
