In our quest to find great Pinots, I admit we have become a bit snobby. If the price is low, it can’t possibly be any good. Well, this wine really surprised us! We smelled it and thought, “Hmm, OK, it’s got a great nose…” Then we tasted it and looked at each other wide-eyed – “This is DARN GOOD!” It has a wonderful earthiness to it, combined with just enough spice and berry flavors to make it interesting. Probably the best valued Pinot Noir we’ve ever had, it has nothing to apologize for! Except being under-priced!
The 2016 Russian River Valley harvest produced grapes full of intense color and flavor.
With an almost smoky component, the Willowbrook 2016 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir exhibits beautiful raspberry aromas offset by fresh black pepper and notes of rose. On the palate, a precisely-balanced acidity gives way to suggestions of forest floor and a striking depth of ripe berry fruit. The silky mouthfeel is well complemented by structured tannins. Hints of mocha and Christmas spices mingle on the finish along with vibrant flavors of cassis and vanilla, a product of the wine aging in premium French oak barrels.
This is a natural pairing wine and we recommend doing so with smoked meats, lightly-spiced Indian dishes or with creamy camembert and figs.
