Castelfeder Burgum Novum Riserva Pinot Nero DOC 2016 Red Wine
Castelfeder Burgum Novum Riserva Pinot Nero DOC 2016
Alto Adige, Italy
93 pts. Wine Advocate
This lovely Pinot Noir from the Alto Adige region of Italy reminds me a lot of a classic Burgundy. Plenty of ripe red fruit up front, with subtle undertones of spice and earth. A very food-friendly wine, it would pair really well with roasted chicken and rich sauces. Decant for maximum enjoyment.
WHERE IS THE ALTO ADIGE WINE REGION?
Alto Adige is an alpine valley situated in the northeastern part of Italy bordering Austria and Switzerland, and is well known for its beauty. Also known as South Tyrol, the area is a highly-regarded wine producing region which has recently gained the attention of international wine critics.
The high mountain peaks protect South Tyrol from the Atlantic winds and cold northerlies, while the region benefits from the Mediterranean climate from the south. Terlano has a remarkable microclimate, with pronounced differences in temperature between day and night caused by the cool downslope winds from the mountains.
To the south, a number of mountain massifs like the Adamello also have a protective function. As a result, annual precipitation is only about one-third of the average for the southern Alpine foothills, and the number of hours of sunshine is higher.
FROM THE WINERY
Since 1989 the “Burgum Novum” label represents the premium wines of Castelfeder. These wines are the maximum expression for the intense work and care from the vineyard to the vinification and are grown in the most prestigious vineyards in Alto Adige.
Our Pinot Nero Riserva is only produced when the conditions permit the creation of a truly outstanding wine that shows off the Alto Adige region in its very best. The 2016 vintage resulted in very intense, concentrated Pinots with powerful ruby red colour, fine Burgundy bouquet with red berry flavours accompanied by vanilla notes. A deep mouth filling wine with clear tannins that has all the hallmarks that we look for in a Riserva.
