Walt Wines Blue Jay Pinot Noir 2021 Red Wine

Anderson Valley, CA

You’re probably familiar with the Napa Valley Cabernet winery “Hall”. Well, co-owner Kathryn Walt Hall branched off and created sister winery “Walt Wines”, which focuses on producing high-quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. She sources her grapes from Oregon all the way down to Sta. Rita Hills, only bottling wines from select top-end vineyards. We LOVE what she’s done with this Anderson Valley Pinot! (By the way, “Blue Jays” are what the Anderson Valley locals call themselves, in reference to the large number of Blue Jays that live there). – Wine Factor

FROM THE WINERY
TASTING NOTES

This wine opens with vivid aromas of black cherry, plum, clove, and dried meadow grasses that rise from the glass. Our signature technique of including roasted stems in the fermentation process adds a lift of structure and spice to the ripe, plush palate. Integrated flavors of dark fruit lead to a powerful finish with beautiful length.

WINEGROWING NOTES

This unique set of vineyards from "The Corner" of Anderson Valley is located in the hills east of Boonville. Both of our estate properties have steep hillsides, aspect, and light gravelly soils that combine to create optimal ripening conditions. These very rugged vineyard sites continuously produce fruit of great depth and character.

VINTAGE NOTES

The alluring 2021 vintage is remarkable for its low yields, resulting in an extra degree of concentration in our wines. In the second year of drought, warm spring weather sped up vine growth, while our team judiciously managed watering block by block. By summer, the vines had set a lighter than average crop, and cooler weather in August allowed time for vineyard passes to fine-tune the fruit load and manage the canopy. After a smooth harvest season, we are excited about the flavor-packed 2021 wines.
