Ceretto Barolo DOCG 2014

Piedmont, Italy

Certified Organic

91 pts. Vinous- "The 2014 Barolo is a very pretty wine, and one of the overachievers of the year. One of the reasons for that is because in 2014 Ceretto did not bottle a Brunate or Bricco Rocche. Far from the easygoing wine it usually is, the straight Barolo is tightly wound, austere and nervy, all qualities of this very unique growing season. Ceretto’s 2014 could turn out to be a real surprise."  (Nov. 2018)

91 pts. James Suckling - "Really attractive dried fruit on the nose of this Barolo, including dried red cherries and dried hibiscus as well as five spices, dried rose petals, wet earth and tea leaves. Medium body, polished tannins and a delicate mouthfeel enhanced by linear acidity. A taut finish. Drink now or hold."  (Sept. 2018)

WINEMAKER'S NOTES:

"The idea of combining different sensations to create a good balance is the basis of the original concept of Barolo; the more traditional producers have always tried to avoid prioritising the single expression of the vineyard in lieu of the right balance in the glass. And so it is in our classic Barolo, two souls of the appellation coexisting: the more gentle one, whose area is defined by the Tortonian soils of La Morra and Barolo, of which Brunate is an example, and the more austere and masculine one, coming from slopes with typical Helvetian soil, such as those at the base of Gabutti in Serralunga. It’s a stylistic choice, that of trying to interpret the taste of the appellation’s namesake, which gives us a rich and virile wine, able to be enjoyed young or after its evolution, for the passionate."

Barolo pairs well with hearty dishes such as beef stew, prime rib, portobello mushroom dishes, etc. A perfect "comfort food" wine!
