In our search for delicious yet affordable French Burgundy, we came upon this wine and said, "At last!" We finally found such a thing! This Burgundy is extremely food-friendly. We recommend serving it with turkey, chicken and mushroom dishes. Go ahead and enjoy it now, but being a Burgundy it will age and improve for MANY years to come.

Before Phylloxera destroyed the vines in the 19th century, Mercurey was considered one of the best wines in Burgundy. The appellation is now experiencing a resurgence! Cognard has produced an outstanding 2012 Mercurey from the Premier Cru vineyard of "Clos du Paradis"in the Cote Chalonnaise.

"Clos de Paradis is an official Premier Cru vineyard site of the Mercurey appellation in the Cote Chalonnaise sub-region of Burgundy. It is one of about 30 vineyards to be granted this status and its name may thus be appended to that of the Mercurey appellation on wine labels. The classic Mercurey Premier Cru wine is deep in color, quite full-bodied and relatively long-lived.
