Lachini Vineyards "S" Pinot Noir 2012
Willamette Valley, OR
A beautifully delicate Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, Oregon, this wine piqued the interest of everyone in the Wine Factor tasting group. One of our panel experts put forth this picturesque description: “The Lachini "S" 2012 is elegant and subtle through the beginning, middle and end. Unlike a crowd bursting into a small room, this wine tiptoes in, greeting you with a quiet smile and a single rose.”
The Lachini "S" Pinot Noir 2012 is light in color with a soft minerality in the nose, slightly ripe cherry on the palate moving over toward raspberry and currant with hints of truffled herbs and a sea breeze. This delicate structure is smoothly balanced all the way through to a pleasing finish. Please decant this fine Pinot. Being soft and delicate, it is a great "drink alone" wine. It also pairs very nicely with light-flavored foods such as pork, white fish (like tilapia or lionfish), chicken, subtle-flavored cheeses etc.
Winemaker/owner Ron Lachini believes 2012 may be the best vintage in the Willamette Valley of the last 20 years, in his opinion. His "S" Pinot Noir has "a natural acidity, impeccable balance, and will age well."
"The ‘S’ or ‘la Sorella della famiglia (‘sister’ to our Family Estate Pinot Noir) is crafted with a newer oak composition and selected for more opulence on the nose and ripeness in texture. It is comprised of 100% Lachini Vineyards Pinot Noir from our Biodynamically® farmed Estate vineyard in the North Willamette Valley. “Fruit forward’ in its expression, yet of the final 14 barrel blend selected, approximately 25% were whole cluster fermented & 80% native yeast fermentations which express in more spice notes, wild flavors and silkier tannins. It was bottled unfined & unfiltered to retain character and terroir. The ensuing warm late season daytime temperatures granted us riper fruit while the cool summer and fall evenings yielded great acidity! Ultimately, we crafted a similar ‘S’ Pinot Noir to the style from the warmer 2002-2008 vintages. Displays an ease of balance and remarkable finesse on an expansive mid-palate. The underlying structure, well integrated acidity with fine grained tannins should allow for further development in the bottle and additional nuances over time. Drink it now or lay it down for later."
Ruby red, reveals beautiful aromas of ripe fruits. There’s a subtle feral quality that expresses umami of sautéed wild mushrooms in butter with crisp prosciutto with candied figs. Bursts with flavors of ripe cherries & wild raspberries, while spice and mineral overtones round and a deft touch of oak imparts a delicious toast and note of sweet vanilla. For all the fruit, it is perfectly balanced, offers mouthcoating voluminous richness that melds beautifully with the fine grained tannins. The savory finish is quite delectable and long. Should age up to 12 years.
