Sanford Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2015

Sta. Rita Hills, CA

This wine is a beautiful example of the delicious Pinots coming out of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation, in south-central California. The historic Sanford & Benedict vineyard has its own distinctive flavor unlike any other, with a lively red fruit flavor that's just delightful!

In 1971, the first pioneering vineyards in Santa Barbara were planted at Sanford Winery. This renowned cool climate AVA was not only launched by the planting of the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, but also expanded to neighbors’ plantings through cuttings from this vineyard. For over 40 years now, this iconic vineyard has set the standard for quality in the region and is also home to the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the county. Today the estate is owned, farmed and cared for by the Terlato family and is comprised of the Sanford & Benedict and La Rinconada Ranches and their vineyards.

The 2015 Sanford Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from our two estate vineyards: the historic Sanford and Benedict Vineyard (51%) and La Rinconada (49%). Both of these stellar vineyards are in the heart of the Sta. Rita Hills. A wide range of Pinot clones are planted on these sites, and our 2015 is a blend of 6 of these from different soil types. 2015 was a warm dry year, with low yields resulting in concentrated, well-structured and balanced wines.

Aroma: Bursting with earthy raspberry and orange peel, along with savory notes of anise and white pepper.

Taste: The palate delivers dense dusty, berry flavors with lively acid and tannin structure, which carries on with a long and lovely finish.

Aging: Aged in French Oak barrels (30% new) for 10 ½ months where it gained concentration and picked up hints of toast, bacon and clove.
