Three Sticks Price Family Estates Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2023 Red Wine
750 ml
97 pts .Tasting Panel Magazine:
"From one of the latest harvests in the Sonoma Coast history, development of flavor had an advantage and this wine is proof. This wine is a blend of the estate’s six vineyards including the Heritage Vineyards of the Durell, Gap’s Crown, and Walala. The wine is delicate and feathery, with clear cut acid structure that illuminates cherries, pomegranate, and orange peel. Its dimension is notable, a down pillow of creamy blueberry, hibiscus, and mint chocolate chip with a dash of black pepper on the finish."
94 pts. Vinous:
"The 2023 Pinot Noir Price Family Estates draws on all of Bill Price’s vineyards. Bright acids and beams of tannin immediately confer both freshness and energy. Crushed rose petal, chalk, mint, slate and dried herbs show all the delineation of a cool, late-ripening year. This is impeccably done, but also young. Give it a year or two in bottle."
92 pts. Wine Enthusiast:
"Aromas of raspberry, mint leaves, orange zest and clove waft from the glass on the nose of this Pinot. The palate brings rich tannin and zesty acidity, with flavors of baked berry pie, fresh herb mélange and pie spice that rattle and hum through the finish."
This is a Pinot Noir "in stereo"! The flavors blend seamlessly - blueberries mixed in with baking spices - and those wonderful flavors linger for a long time. A wonderful wine! - Wine Factor
FROM THE WINERY
Our 2023 Price Family Estates Pinot Noir was named Pinot Noir of the Year and Best Wine of the Year by USA Wine Ratings, judged by leading sommeliers, buyers, and masters of wine.
The Durell, Gap’s Crown, and Walala Vineyards comprise what we call our Heritage Vineyards. We recognize and celebrate the history and legacy of these renowned vineyards even prior to our ownership of them. But, as their current stewards, we take very seriously our responsibility to create and protect their future. We do so with obsessive attention to detail and meticulous care in farming them. These Heritage Vineyards are, and forever will be, cornerstones of our fine chardonnay and pinot noir production.
The Price Family Estates Pinot Noir represents the culmination of our dedication to showcasing the distinctive terroirs of our six estate vineyards. Carefully selected lots from each vineyard brings together the best elements of each to create a wine that is both expressive and balanced. The result is a harmonious blend that captures the essence of Sonoma County.
This year’s vintage has hints of cool mint and dark chocolate-covered blueberries, offering a rich, aromatic profile with an intriguing touch of umami. A bright yet creamy mid-palate gives it an appealing weight, while notes of black pepper and dark cherry add layers of complexity.
The 2023 vintage was defined by a wet winter, cool summer, long ripening, and stellar-quality fruit. Much-needed winter rains replenished Sonoma County’s soils and aquifers through early spring, followed by intermittent frost that caused some stunting and uneven growth, though significant damage was avoided. A late but beautiful spring saw grapevines flourish on a delayed schedule. Summer remained cool, slowing maturation despite good fruit set and crop load, while the season ended with cycles of 90+ degree heat and measurable rain over four weeks. Careful canopy management and fruit thinning extended harvest into late October, ultimately yielding exceptional fruit that transformed weather challenges into opportunities for quality.
