Hestan Vineyards Meyer Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Napa Valley, CA
750 ml
93 pts. Wine Enthusiast:

“Saturated with delicious red and black fruits, this full-bodied wine hugs them with warm, fine-grained tannins for a cozy, rich texture that leads to a lingering finish. Blueberries, baking spices and spearmint develop with each sip. Best from 2025.”

93 pts. James Suckling:

"Notes of crushed blueberries and ripe plums with sweet vanilla, spiced oak and coffee. Full-bodied and dry with ripe and rather soft tannins, a juicy-fruit core and a touch of minerality. Long and mellow. Cocoa and licorice to the ripe fruit at the end. Drink or hold."

This is one of those wines that make you want to just close your eyes and savor every sip. The Meyer Vineyard is located in the sunny southeastern part of Napa Valley. Famous winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown coaxes the best out of this highly-esteemed vineyard to create some of the finest Cabernet in the Napa AVA. Drink it with a grilled steak and you’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven! - Wine Factor

FROM THE WINERY
Vineyards

The Hestan Vineyard has 110 planted acres of low yielding Bordeaux varieties and is located on the Napa Valley’s remote Eastern Slopes. The property was a former cattle ranch and was purchased by Stanley and Helen Cheng in 1996. The soils are well drained and the microclimate in this area is warmer than the valley floor, with an average diurnal of 30 degrees each growing season. Both the vineyard and the gardens are sustainably farmed and 100% solar powered.

Growing Season

The beginning of the 2019 growing season was defined by copious rainfall and late soil moisture. The long, warm summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season, not without its moments of unpredictability, helped to preserve freshness and finesse in the fruit.

Vinification

The lots for Meyer Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon are kept separate throughout winemaking to retain individual block and varietal characters. Small capacity fermentation tanks, carefully timed pump-overs and punch-downs, a mix of native and cultured yeasts, the finest French cooperage and extended aging result in a wine noted for its deep flavor and velvety tannins.

Tasting Notes

A true crowd-pleaser, this wine opens with a seductive bouquet of black cherry, red currant, cassis, and a subtle whisper of cigar box. The palate is plush and expressive, revealing layers of blackberry cobbler, ripe plum, and earthy tobacco, all framed by finely integrated tannins. A delicate touch of sweet vanilla and the elegance of French oak lend warmth and structure, guiding the wine to a long, seamless, and harmonious finish.
