Walter Hansel Cuvee Alyce Chardonnay 2023

Russian River Valley, CA
750 ml

Complex flavors with a silky, buttery finish. The vineyard is considered a "Grand Cru" of the Russian River Valley AVA. - Wine Factor

92 pts. Vinous:

"The 2023 Chardonnay Cuvée Alyce emerges from the highest-elevation section of the vineyard and is planted with an assortment of clones, including Hyde Wente, Hudson Wente and Clone 95. Oily and textured in the glass, the Alyce offers lovely textural resonance within the context of the year. Orange confit, crème brûlée, spice and a kiss of French oak linger as the 2023 blossoms with air."

92 pts. Jeb Dunnuck:

"The 2023 Chardonnay Cuvee Alyce offers more clarity in the range and is lifted with notes of preserved lemon, apricot, honeycomb, and wet stones. It's full-bodied, with a weightless, silky texture and elegant notes of hazelnut coaxing through the palate. It's a very strong offering that should improve over the next few years. Drink 2025-2032."

FROM THE WINERY

Cuvée Alyce Chardonnay is crafted from three clones planted in Block 1: a Hyde family selection, a Hudson family selection, and Dijon Clone 95. Together, these selections create a wine of elegance, structure, and depth.

Every vintage the clusters are extremely small with berries the size of bb's. The skins to juice ration is very high, resulting in deep golden color and rich fruit flavors that coat the palate.

Tasting notes

Cuvée Alyce Chardonnay is bright and lifted in the glass, offering vibrant aromas of preserved lemon, apricot, and honeycomb.

On the palate, it is full-bodied yet weightless, with a silky, elegant texture that glides effortlessly. Subtle notes of hazelnut weave through, adding depth and sophistication while gently coaxing the palate toward a long, refined finish.
