Adler Alto Adige Pinot Noir 2023

Alto Adige, Italy
750 ml

This lovely Pinot Noir from northern Italy is very unique! It's aged in large, neutral Slovanian oak barrels, resulting in no oak influence! It's light-bodied, but still full of deep ripe fruit flavors. The perfect summer red wine - I put it somewhere between a Pinot Noir and a Rose'. Serve slightly chilled and enjoy on a hot summer day! – Wine Factor

WHERE IS THE ALTO ADIGE WINE REGION?

Alto Adige is an alpine valley situated in the northeastern part of Italy bordering Austria and Switzerland, and is well known for its beauty. Also known as South Tyrol, the area is a highly-regarded wine producing region which has recently gained the attention of international wine critics.

The high mountain peaks protect South Tyrol from the Atlantic winds and cold northerlies, while the region benefits from the Mediterranean climate from the south. Terlano has a remarkable microclimate, with pronounced differences in temperature between day and night caused by the cool downslope winds from the mountains.

To the south, a number of mountain massifs like the Adamello also have a protective function. As a result, annual precipitation is only about one-third of the average for the southern Alpine foothills, and the number of hours of sunshine is higher.

FROM THE WINERY

The Pinot Noir Alto Adige DOC from Adler Winery is crafted from a grape variety with noble origins. Originally from the prestigious Burgundy region in France, this variety was introduced to South Tyrol over a century ago. Today, the warm, sun-drenched hillsides around Campodazzo in the lower Valle Isarco offer the ideal conditions for growing this exceptional grape. The unique terroir brings out the expressivity and distinctive character that make Pinot Noir one of the most refined and sought-after red wines.

Grown at altitudes ranging from 420 to 750 meters, the Pinot Noir vines benefit from the perfect combination of climate and soil in the lower Valle Isarco. The alluvial soils, enriched with porphyritic sediment and limestone deposits from dolomite rock, provide the vines with the minerals needed to develop complexity and depth. This terroir contributes to the wine’s structure, elegance, and refined character.

The winemaking process at Adler Winery respects the traditional methods essential to bring out the best in Pinot Noir. After a classic maceration on the skins under controlled temperature in stainless steel vats, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, lending it a rounded texture. Finally, the wine is aged on fine lees in large wooden barrels, allowing it to mature gracefully and develop a harmonious balance of flavors and aromas.
