Baricci Montosoli Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Tuscany, Italy
750 ml
97 pts. Decanter:
"Baricci shines with this stunning 2019, from the
estate’s south- to southeast-facing plots at 300 metres on the Montosoli hill.
It is still far too young, but everything is in place for a long and gratifying
life. Preliminary cedar and vanillin nuances melt into sumptuous cherry, and
there's a pronounced stony, mineral edge along with juicy blood orange to
impart further intricacy. Refined and graceful with layered substance, it has
long, chalky, perfectly ‘al dente’ tannins and sappy, mouthwatering acidity."
97 pts. Vinous:
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is youthfully inward
and darkly floral with an herbal tinge and hints of crushed ashen stone that
give way to vivid black raspberry and exotic spice. This is juicy and spry,
with racy cherry-berry fruit and stimulating acidity that creates a sensation
of boundless energy, even as a saturation of primary concentration settles in
toward the close. The 2019 finishes with incredible length and youthful
tension, leaving balsamic spice, sage and licorice notes lingering over a bed
of dusty tannins."
96+ pts. Wine Advocate:
"Baricci's wines are some of the most distinctive and
elegant in the appellation. Showing medium-rich concentration, the 2019
Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli delivers granite, slate, black cherry and dark
currant in one very impactful dollop. The fruit condition is excellent, with a
little under-ripeness that bodes well for the wine's longevity. Montosoli has a
bigger presence in the mouth compared to most, thanks to the pronounced mineral
nuances, but the wine remains elegant throughout and especially on the
mid-palate. Fruit for this wine comes from the estate's oldest vines, aged 25
to 40 years old, in soils rich in marl, quartz, schist and marine fossils.
Production is 16,560 bottles."
95 pts. Wine Spectator:
"Cherry, raspberry, leather, camphor, spice and tobacco
aromas and flavors are the highlights of this taut red, which is balanced in a
compact way. Shows plenty of energy, with a hint of black pepper gracing the
long finish."
FROM THE WINERY
The company is located in the northern part of the territory
of Montalcino, on the slope overlooking the city of Siena, at an altitude of
280 meters above sea level. – It extends for 12 hectares (5 of which are
planted in Brunello) on the hill of Montosoli considered for centuries an area
of excellence, cru and of great winemaking vocation.
It was born in 1955 when the Baricci, a peasant family,
after many years of sacrifices, physical and financial, managed to buy the
small farm called Colombaio di Montosoli. At that time Brunello was an unknown
wine, produced in small quantities and only by very few enthusiasts.
Nello Baricci, together with a few other producers, spent
the years and in 1967, founded the “Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino”
a free association between producers with the aim of protecting, defending and
promoting their wine whose prestige was growing.
The first Brunello Baricci on the market is dated 1971,
while the first bottle of Rosso di Montalcino is from 1968. Currently the
grandchildren Federico and Francesco carry on the name of the family, always
synonymous with tradition, passion and seriousness. The support of the third
generation grandfather is today a proof of “counter-current” employment of the
new generations as well as the continuation of an honest and committed way of
working.
The cellar is equipped with stainless steel tanks and
Slavonian oak barrels. Vinification and aging faithfully follow the traditional
rules that have made Brunello famous all over the world. In fact, the wine
remains in the barrels for at least 3 years and is then aged for another 8
months in the bottle before being marketed in various European countries as
well as in the USA and Japan. The average annual production is about 13,000
bottles of Brunello and 18000 bottles of Rosso di Montalcino.
The Baricci company is unanimously recognized as a typical,
historical Montalcino reality. One of the so-called “small producers” who have
certainly contributed to the great Brunello Di Montalcino.
ABOUT MONTOSOLI CRU

"cru" wines. Montosoli Hill is the most exclusive area in Montalcino

hectares under vine.
Unique Brunello combines complexity, freshness, and elegance
typical from the North with power, minerality, and extraction from the South.

perfect southeast exposure and altitude (270m), the “sweet spot” for Brunellos
which are ripe, floral, savory, and supremely drinkable
