97 pts. Ian D-Agata Wine Review
96 pts. James Suckling:
"On the nose this wine shows licorice, charcoal, wild strawberries, black cherries, smoke and subtle citrus notes. Full-bodied, velvety and lush on the palate, with elegant tannins, chewy acidity and a tight, extracted yet polished savory finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2027."
95 pts. Wine Spectator:
"A rich, fleshy style, this displays cherry, plum, iron and earth flavors. Aligned with a solid structure, with lively acidity and dense, dusty tannins. Remains fresh and fluid throughout, lingering with energy on the aftertaste. Best from 2028 through 2043. 2,666 cases made, 500 cases imported."
FROM THE WINERY
PRODUCTION AREA: Two distinct vineyard parcels owned by the estate: Le Prata, southwest-facing at an altitude of 507 meters above sea level, and La Torre, southeast-facing at 420 meters above sea level. After being vinified and aged separately, the wine is bottled only after a single, unified bottling.
GRAPES USED: 100% certified organic Sangiovese
TRAINING SYSTEM: Guyot
PLANTING DENSITY: 5,952 vines/ha
YIELD PER HECTARE: 55–60 quintals
ESTATE PHILOSOPHY: Longstanding ambassadors of Montalcino tradition, committed to expressing the elegance of pure Sangiovese through long spontaneous fermentations, which in 2021 lasted 57 days. Fermentations are carried out exclusively by indigenous yeasts, without temperature control. The wine then ages for 42 months in large 30–50 hl Slavonian oak casks. Unfiltered.
CLIMATIC CONDITIONS: The 2021 vintage was marked by a relatively dry and mild winter, followed by a regular spring with moderate, well-distributed rainfall that supported balanced vegetative growth. Summer was warm and dry, without prolonged heat extremes. September provided stable and favorable conditions for harvest, with good day–night temperature variations that allowed for perfect phenolic ripening in the vineyard.
ALCOHOL CONTENT: 14.5% vol.
TASTING NOTES: The color is a very bright and deep ruby red. A balanced, fragrant, and linear wine. On the palate it is harmonious and well balanced, with mature, polished tannins, good structure, and well-integrated acidity. The finish is clean, persistent, and consistent, highlighting finesse, precision, and outstanding aging potential.
