Saxon Brown Sangiacomo - Robert's Road Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

Sonoma Coast, CA

If Sonoma Coast Pinots tickle your fancy, you're going to love this one! With lively spices and lots of red fruit flavors, it's a wonderful example of just how delicious Pinots from this region can be. Thanks to winemaker/owner Jeff Gaffner’s unique winemaking techniques, this wine will last for years to come! He really hits it out of the park with this Pinot! - Wine Factor

FROM THE WINERY
Vineyard:

Farmed by the legendary Sangiacomo family, Roberts Road Vineyard is planted to the western slopes of Sonoma Mountain, on an old creek bed. The site’s alluvial clay soils and unique location in a fog-catching depression at the base of the mountain create the perfect conditions for growing world class Pinot Noir. The vineyard’s extended hangtime along with the Dijon 115 and Pommard clonal selections produce extraordinarily structured and beautifully aromatic wines.

Winemaking:

Our Roberts Road Pinot Noir was harvested in the early morning and transported immediately to the winery, where the grapes were de-stemmed into small open top tanks for three days of cold soak at approximately 45F. The must was allowed to warm and start fermentation, at which point we added a very small amount of Red Burgundy yeast strain and began punch downs three to four times daily. Once fermentation was completed, the wine was pressed to new French oak barrels for secondary malolactic fermentation and settling. After a total of 18 months in barrel, the wine was bottled unfined and unfinished.

Tasting Notes:

A wine noted for its signature aromatics, our 2018 Roberts Road Pinot Noir opens with alluring scents of violet, lavender and dried rose. The young, fruit forward palate shows even more concentration than in previous vintages, with a generous core of red cherry, raspberry and cranberry highlighted by sweet tea and clove notes. Finishes with great length and elegance. Enjoy upon release (2024) or cellar for up to 10-12 years.
