Figgins Family Wine Estates Figlia 2022

Walla Walla, WA
750 ml
96 pts. James Suckling:

"Ripe plums, cocoa powder, walnuts and dried herbs on the nose of this dark-fruited red. Violets, too. It’s full-bodied, polished and structured, with firm and compact tannins, but it’s silky and velvety in texture. Very long, caressing finish. A blend of petit verdot and merlot. Best after 2027."

92 pts. Wine Spectator:

"Precise and tightly focused, with sinewy black cherry, pencil shaving and tobacco accents that build tension and structure on the finish. Hands off for now. Petit Verdot and Merlot. Best from 2026 through 2033. 1,603 cases made."

FROM THE WINERY
Winemaker’s Notes

My favorite Figlia to date! Very dark crimson color. The bouquet opens with baking spices, cinnamon, ripe boysenberries, and follows with more subtle aromas of cranberry sauce and menthol. A wine of dimension that starts off with a sultry softness and expands into a full-bodied structure with rich notes of warm raspberry cobbler. The finish is silky, balanced, and full. Incredibly approachable today.

Vintage Notes

If I had to name the 2022 growing season, I would give it the simple moniker, “The Miracle Vintage.” First, an impossibly late spring and “Juneuary” had us sweating bullets going into October. It was one of the coolest vintages of my career, especially at the high-elevation Figgins Estate vineyard. Then the record-setting warm October quite literally saved the vintage for us. These wines are simply stunning and are not to be missed!
